Abstract. Jaccoud’s arthropathy is a chronic, non erosive, rheumatoid-like deformity of the hands associated with rheumatic fever and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This deforming arthropathy may present difficulties in differentiating SLE from rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
What causes Jaccoud arthropathy?
It is caused by inflammation of the joint capsule and subsequent fibrotic retraction, causing ulnar deviation of the fingers, through metacarpophalangeal joint (MCP) subluxation, primarily of the ring and little-finger. Joints in the feet, knees and shoulders may also get affected.
