Is Evapo-Rust effective?
When Evapo-Rust® is sprayed on a deeply rusted surface, the water in the solution will evaporate long before the de-rusting can be completed. However, if there is light rust on a flat surface area (e.g. appliances, countertops, etc.), then spraying or wiping on Evapo-Rust® solution can work very effectively.
How long does Evapo-Rust last?
Evapo-Rust has an indefinite shelf life. The product can be re-used until its effectiveness starts to wear off. In general, one gallon of Evapo-Rust® will remove 1/2 pound of pure dry rust.
Do I need to rinse Evapo-Rust?
A lightly rusted item may only need to soak for 15 minutes. Heavier rust may require eight hours or longer. Check your item periodically, wiping or even rinsing away the EvapoRust to see how the rust removal is progressing. EvapoRust will not harm the metal, so there is nothing to worry about in letting it soak longer.
Does Evapo-Rust leave a coating?
Yes. EVAPO-RUST® will remove these in about 30 minutes. Anodizing will not be removed. Powder coating and paint will not be removed as long as the paints do not contain oxides.
Can you add water to Evapo-Rust?
No, as explained above Evapo-Rust is too weak to remove iron from steel and will not effect the base metal. Can Evapo-Rust be diluted to make it go further? No, it is shipped at the correct concentration, diluting it will not make it go further and will make it less effective.
Does hydrogen peroxide clean rust?
Get rid of rust. Add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide, just enough to form a paste. Rub the paste onto the rusty objects, wait an hour, then wash them with water. This method works best for light to moderately rusted items like tools and toys.
What happens if you leave rust remover on too long?
Many acid-based rust removal products are gel formulations. Once applied, if the gel remains on the metal too long, it will start to dissolve it, causing pitting.
