Is relate a free service?
Each Relate Centre tries to keep the cost of counselling as low as possible, but we do need to charge a fee for services in order to cover the cost of what we spend. Relate is a not for profit charity and the money that we charge goes straight back into providing the best service possible.
Can you go to relationship counselling on your own?
While couples therapy is ideally suited to couples attending the sessions together, sometimes one partner is reluctant to attend, so you can look to speak to a couples counsellor on your own, to begin with.
Why is Relate so expensive?
If you’re a charity, why do you charge? Relate is a charity and Relate Centres receive limited funding to deliver services and therefore need to make a charge to cover the cost of delivery. Relate Centres regularly review their charges and always try to keep the cost of counselling as low as possible.
Can I go to Relate on my own?

As well as training our own practitioners, Relate recruits people who are already a qualified counsellor and have the required qualifications and experience to work for one of our mainstream services.
Can marriage counseling make things worse?
People who are unhappy in their marriages may turn to mental health professionals for help, unaware therapy could in fact make things worse. I’m not talking about bad couples therapy, although therapists who lack training in effective couples therapy certainly can do more harm than good.
