Is it worth being a driving instructor?
Being able to teach a young person a valuable life skill makes for a very rewarding job. Meeting new people each week and being able to positively influence their life is something our Driving Instructors always say is a great part of the job.
Is one driving lesson a week enough?
Frequency of lessons Continuity of driving lessons is really important. The more often you’re behind the wheel the better. Between 2 and 4 hours of private lessons per week is recommended. You’re also likely to progress more quickly if you have two-hour lessons each time.
Do driving instructors make mistakes?
A requirement to being a driving instructor is being patient. You will of course expect novice drivers to make mistakes, but the learners that really test your patience are the ones that constantly make the same mistakes week-after-week and during each lesson.

The average annual mileage is around 30000 (to compare this to average mileage on small cars used for pleasure at around 10000 this is very high). So on average as instructors we may have to change our cars every 3 years or so… the costs on buying add up all the time.

If you are over 18, no in-car driving lessons are required by California. But we sure do recommend them. Most adult drivers require anywhere from 4-12 hours depending on their special needs.
