Do you need a setback seatpost?
Seatposts are available in different offsets ranging from 0 degrees to 35 degrees. A setback post puts you further behind your crankset and a straight seatpost moves you closer. The amount of setback or offset is best determined through a basic bike fit at a participating bike shop.
What does seatpost offset mean?
They come in various diameters, lengths and offsets. Offset is the distance between the centerline of the seatpost tube, and the centerline of the clamp area. Shims are often available to adapt a too-small seatpost to a too-large seat tube.
Does seatpost offset matter?
The zero offset helps to put those folks over the pedal easier. Zero offset posts also work well if the top tube (real or virtual) is longer then ideal. Moving the seat forward reduces the distance between the stem and the saddle.
Are suspension seatposts worth it?
A suspension seatpost is a great comfort upgrade, as it will both absorb bigger hits, as well as dampen vibrations coming up from the road. This essentially means you’ll feel fresher at the end of a long ride. For anything slow and off-road, you cannot beat a spring-damped seatpost.
Do shock absorbing seat posts work?
Suspension seatposts provide a cost-effective way to smooth out the shocks and bumps in the road or track, without the need to buy a 2nd (3rd/4th) bicycle. Big tires offer a lot of cushions, but due to their large surface area can seriously slow you down on the roads.
Can a 31.6 seatpost fit a 30.9 frame?
You can fit a narrower post into a wider frame using a shim (a thin sleeve of aluminium or plastic), for example a 30.9 mm dropper post into a 31.6 mm frame. However, there is no way to fit a wider post in a narrower frame, for example a 31.6 mm post into a 30.9 mm frame.
Is a suspension seatpost worth it road bike?
Suspension on the wheels helps them stay on the ground over rough terrain, which a suspension seatpost will not do. Any extra “comfort” is simply a side benefit. If you’re looking to smooth out your ride, the #1 thing you can do is lower your tire pressure.
