Why did Nixie and Lyla leave Mako Mermaids?
With Zac remaining a merman despite being in the moon pool during a full moon, it is assumed that she and Nixie gave up on trying to remove his powers. In “The Seventh Cycle”, it is revealed by Veridia that she and Nixie left with their original pod in search of a new home.
Why did Sirena leave Mako?
At some point after this, Sirena and Aquata both temporarily left Mako and the pod to take a vacation in Hawaii to catch up after being separated for so long. She therefore does not appear in season 3 and David is shown to miss her very much.

There is no news yet as to whether or not Mako Mermaids will be renewed for a fifth season. In fact, ‘fifth season’ is a bit of a misnomer — the show technically only has three seasons, but Netflix split season 2 into two parts, so the numbers read differently on Netflix compared to other places.
